After-School Care Options:

Children at Grattan utilize several different options for on-going after care. On site there are three programs available.

  • The Grattan Child Development Center (Grattan CDC). It is operated by the SFUSD and offers subsidized care, arrangements can be made for those who do not meet income eligibility guidelines. For more information, please contact the CDC directly, as it has a separate administration from Grattan Elementary School. You can reach the CDC at : 415.759.2850.
  • The Grattan After School Program(GASP) is fee based, and usually requires families place children in the program 5 days a week. GASP has a separate administration, you can reach GASP at : 415.664.3164.
  • The Grattan ExCEL Program: Grattan has recently been notified it has received funding through the federal 21st Century Learning Community program to start up a new ExCEL AfterSchool Program in Fall 2007 with support from the SFUSD, Health Programs Department. The Grattan administration and PTA are working together to establish an enriching after-school experience for 3rd-5th grade students that complements and builds upon existing on-site afterschool programming and directly aligns with Grattan’s educational program and philosophy. Free to all participating students, this program will include Academics, Enrichment and Recreation and operate until 6 pm five days a week. For the ExCEL enrollment form please click here.

The Grattan Community also utilizes the Jewish Community Center and the Boys' and Girls' Club, and have arrangements with these centers to pick up children when school ends. Please contact them directly for more information. For incoming Kindergarten families, a new Montessori program called Jubilee Montessori Internacional has opened close to Grattan, it is seeking to start an afterschool program for K-1. Please contact them at : 415.661.6249 for more information.

After School Enrichment

The PTA has organized afterschool enrichment classes designed to encourage participation from children from both the on-site after care programs as well as those who return home at the end of the school day. We welcome children from off-site aftercare programs but do not currently have arrangements for pick-up in place so families are responsible for transportation.

Lasting for 75 to 90 minutes after-school, these programs encompass a broad array of different activities aimed at engaging children and enriching their school experience. For a schedule of current programs please click here. At the end of each school year, we evaluate the current programs and determine what to put in place for next year based upon feedback from parents and classroom observations.

Sign up for enrichment classes typically starts during the 3rd week of school in the Fall and then in mid January. Registration forms will appear in the PTA folders that get sent home every week and also on the Grattan web-site. Because we do not want cost to be a barrier, we have arranged for scholarships in every class. We hope these scholarships help to reduce financial barriers, especially for the more costly programs. Ms. Toni, who works in Grattan's front office, administers the scholarship program and also oversees registration. If there are not enough spaces available in the first semester for all of the children interested in a particular class, we give those children first priority when sign up occurs again in January.
