Meeting called to Order by James Bair at 6:15pm

  • Grattan Fun Fest: 5/17/08
  • Memorial Day. No School May 26
  • Clowns, May 20
  • Volunteer Assembly, June 5  8:30am
  • Egg Drop, June 10
  • Last PTA Meeting, June 10 6-7:30
  • Last Day of School, June 14

 

 

Hot Topics/New Things:   James Bair, PTA President

  • Rainy Day Fund: Net $15k to Grattan. Doesn’t meet shortfall—need to bridge gap.
  • Excel Fundraiser: Huge Success-raised $2k
  • 2nd Giving Letter Campaign-Steve: Tight budget year; most reserves are going to priorities that were established by the SSC and PTA. Goal of $10k-letter to go out next week following Fun Fest.  Communication a big challenge for next year.

 

 

Room Parent Reports:

  • Kelly:  Baskets-global email to all room parents on basket status. Going well.
  • Elaine: Architecture project for 2nd grade-local history of Cole Valley and the Haight. Plan neighborhoods and design.

 

Grattan Fun Fest:

  • Auction Status (Christina); Close to $60k worth of goods and services; Catalogs available. Set up on Friday night—all are welcome.
  • Booths: Everything looks good.
  • Food: 9:30 set up.
  • Volunteers (Sona): need a lot more help.  Great way to support school—email Sona if interested.  Big setup on Friday night from 4-8pm. No formal childcare.
  • Take public transportation; email blast; kids need to be supervised-also need sandbags.

 

Financials:

      Katie: Budget Report

  • Excel has exceeded their fundraising goals-PTA budgeted $20k—we have not used it.  They have been self-funded.
  • We will need to write large check to SFUSD-$75,350; $85k in reserves at year end including GFF calculations; Will leave us with $10k at beginning of new school year; Expenditures this year-$130k—We will look into monthly giving—up fundraising. 90% of money to district is for 4/5 class size reductions-10% to Philip; Vote to approve $75 k to SFUSD—moved by Steve, Sarah seconds the motion-Unanimous.
  • Expenses not previously approved presented-Motion to ratify? Maya motions, James seconds-Unanimous

 

 

Committee Reports:

  • Greening (Jack): Rebecca is integrating gardening into classroom curriculum; kids are planting, harvesting, cooking and eating from the garden.  3 staff members went to Occidental for training; Jim Koulias and Marie Sayles will be the new co-chairs. Renovations under Prop A-2010 possibly-school will get $130k to use at discretion regarding greening; will begin planning for it.
  • After school-Excel-Will continue for next year; enrollment priority given to 4/5 graders and 3rd grade siblings; Registration packet to go out in yellow folders; open house on May 20.
  • Michelle M. : Several CDC families did not get Grattan for kindergarten; we are losing our diversity; appealing to district-please sign petition if interested.
